( ALPHONSE ELRIC ) not your burden to bear. |
Welp. This was awkward from the start. Ed previously thought he was prepared to deal with things if the little brother who finally showed up in Exsilium turned out to be a stranger from another universe - he'd just calmly explain the situation like he never did with Alfons, like he owed Alfons, and then they could decide whether to go their separate ways or not. The first thing that threw him was discovering that this version of Al... nearly recognised him on sight. Then they started comparing notes... Their first encounter could have gone much worse, and for now as they pursue their primary shared goal of doing their part to help the Exiles they've reached enough of an understanding to act like things are normal between them, but there's a lot Ed is keeping to himself in an attempt to smooth things over, and he has a sneaking suspicion it's mutual. He doesn't consciously realise how telling this is. Currently, Ed's #1 priority is figuring out how to send Al home before that time limit he heard about creeps up on them - he figures that's the most direct way to help, since as far as his alchemy is concerned (whatever that really means) Al's body is no longer inside the Gate. He hasn't really consulted Al on how he's going to go about it, though... |
FRIENDS | |
( SNOW VILLIERS ) |
too tall, end of :( On the surface of it, they don't have a lot in common. Snow comes across as kind of... simple... and also permanently so cheery that Ed would suspect he was up to something if he thought any self-respecting evil mastermind would look like Snow. But there's all of his hero talk, which he really seems to believe. Ed, who's painstakingly starting to shed some of the cynicism he's been carrying around all this time, can respect someone as forcefully idealist as Snow a lot more than he'd probably admit to. And then there was that timeline distortion, which for Ed was an complicated experience even ignoring the slightly distracting part where he got stabbed - he hadn't been as vulnerable as that in a while, and it could have been a lot worse for him if Snow hadn't patched him up. Maybe having an enormous hobo encourage his reckless shounen protagonist inclinations was exactly what he needed emotionally right after having his worldview shaken up by Dante, whether or not it got him anywhere in a more concrete goal-achieving sense. This is all a really roundabout way of saying that Snow counts as a friend in Ed's (not particularly thick) book. They might not have run into each other that much so far, but he's left an impression! And Ed does feel like he owes the guy, which is going to nag at him a bit until either he figures out how to pay Snow back or he gets called "kid" again - so why not get to know him a little better in the meantime? ...OTOH Ed is a terrible friend, so Snow should probably worry. |
( BILLY CRANSTON ) |
An obviously competent mechanic who probably doesn't like Ed much back - but if he doesn't, he refrains from saying, which Ed takes as basically an open invitation to hang around the garage being an egotistical nuisance. The guy clearly knows his stuff and seems helpful about it, which is pretty cool, but more importantly he semi-frequently gives Ed opportunities to show off, and there are never enough of those. His general politeness even very vaguely reminds Ed of Alfons... All this really means is that when Ed's an arrogant jerk to him he's doing it because he is an arrogant jerk and not consciously playing it up to get on Billy's nerves, though. |
ACQUAINTANCES | |
( LARSA FERRINAS SOLIDOR ) |
The little stuffy kid who happened to switch bodies with Ed during and after the art theft mission. In most respects Ed probably got the better end of the deal - he had mixed feelings when he woke up with missing limbs again - but one particular respect really didn't help his temper. |
( BARNABY BROOKS JR. ) |
He hasn't chatted to Barnaby that much or for that long, and Ed is disinclined at best towards getting friendly with police types (he's a natural born troublemaker, while he was in the military he just figured none of that was his problem, all the times he has been involved in crime investigations and such ended kind of badly, oh and the last police officer he met and was on reasonably good terms with turned out to be a Nazi...) - but talking to the teen him actually left an impression. He's had some time to reflect on his own life choices since landing on Earth, so he might have seen a little of himself in there... in a relatively good way, not in the terrible way that involves dead mothers. Having noticed that, he's likely to respect the guy a little more from here on in. And hey, since he doesn't currently have castmates or anyone close to turn to, guess who's the planned first port of call if homunculi or other people he doesn't like do start showing up in the new arrivals... |
ENCOUNTERED | |
( MILES EDGEWORTH ) |
A really stuffy guy with questionable fashion sense. It's fairly easy to make fun of him. But that would be wrong. |
( MAYA FEY ) |
Some tiny girl he literally ran into just after she'd lost her sister. He sympathised quite a lot, but probably wasn't much good at showing it. |
( FRANZISKA VON KARMA ) |
During the post Black Rock timeline distortions, spilled her daddy issues all over the network. Ed pretends he can't remember much of this, and so pointedly ignores her when he passes her in the street. |
( PHOENIX WRIGHT ) |
Pretty much the only person Ed encountered on Separation Day who explicitly told him he looked way too old to be a small kid. This naturally meant instant friends. ...Kind of. |
( ADAM JENSEN ) |
A bitter drunk, it sounds like. Never met any of those before. That's some interesting tech he seems to be wearing, though. |
( GORDON FREEMAN ) |
Any genuine, serious scientist here is worth keeping an eye on. Working with... maybe in the future, but for some reason the guy doesn't seem to appreciate his constructive suggestions. |
( THE HELMSMAN ) |
Memorable for an argument about AIs, the concept of which Ed hadn't really grasped beforehand. |
( SHUUYA KANO ) |
Vague brat. Encountered while plugging his own equally vague sounding secret society. Seemed like one to keep an eye on. |
( TSUBOMI KIDO ) |
Another person who outright told him that the reason she offered him candy on Separation Day was not because he looked small. This is pretty much the only detail he took away. |
( KORRA ) |
Beat Ed in a snowfight once. |
( ASAMI SATO ) |
Who's this girl? She looks a little familiar... |
( BALDER ) |
Also beat Ed in a snowfight once. Never forget. |
NOPE | |
( ONYX ) |
Some lady who seems a little like Archer in that she's way too into the idea of war. Not that it's Ed's problem, but she sounds like she needs to be taken down a peg. |

( WINRY ROCKBELL ) tell her thanks for this. |
Winry is... Winry! Still the best damn mechanic around, which he will admit absolutely anywhere except to her face, and still one of two people in the universe he trusts enough to... be evasive about personal questions in front of instead of just outright lying. Dealing with problems by sharing them instead of pretending he's already fine is something he's working on, okay. But he is seriously happy that he got a chance to see her again, more than he ever let on. He missed her a lot these past couple of years, and he feels a little guilty about essentially wasting the last (from his point of view) opportunity he had to talk to her. Part of the reason he tried not to rock the boat early on after arriving in Exsilium was so she didn't have to worry about him as much - the way he sees it, he was making it up to her. (It didn't last.) The different worlds thing bothered him a little. In his mind, it sort of implies that he was technically a stranger to her, and that's all kinds of messed up. After the immediate awkwardness of finding out, he quietly decided not to make a big deal of it... because the last time he made a big deal of anything similar, it was over Alfons, and look how well that turned out. ...Also, she would've been able to tell, and she would have worried. This backfired somewhat, though - it left him pretty much unprepared for when Al showed up and was considerably less willing to let the subject lie. Which has only made him miss Winry more, oddly enough. |

( TIDUS ) |
Another person who apparently arrived at about the same time as him. Owns a funky-looking sword. Said he'd also done this world-hopping thing before, which is... weird. But he didn't seem like a bad guy, really. |
